If my Doctor and Dentist both write me prescriptions for opiate pain meds what do I do?

I suffer from chronic lower back pain, which my doctor writes me opiate pain medications for, usually about a month's worth (its not a set thing, but it usually lasts me around a month and I usually send in a refill request through my pharmacy around the same time every month) and I got my refill 2 days ago, but the day before my refill came through, one of my wisdom teeth broke in half exposing a nerve. I got an emergency appt with my dentist and he checked it out, he recommended that I get the stump of that tooth surgically removed as well as the other 3 wisdom teeth. While in his office he offered to write me a prescription for pain meds to last me till I get an appointment with the oral surgeon, but I told him, "no, I'm ok for now."

Im supposed to take my pain meds based on how bad my back hurts (some days a lot, some days a little or none) but since my teeth and back are both killing me I've been taking a lot of my meds and am sure to run out while still in pain. I know that the oral surgeon will prescribe me meds in a few days when i get the surgery, but will I get in trouble at the pharmacy for having a second prescription of pain meds filled from this second source?? I live in California and someone told me you can get in trouble for similar situations or something.

Just get one of the prescriptions. It's the same thing...you don't need to get both of them just because you're given them. It's the same medication..... :D
