Can I become a Further Education (college) Science teacher with the qualifications Ive gained?

I have been in both compulsory and non-compulsory education for the last 23 years, I haven't had "proper full time jobs"; rather- part time, agency and voluntary jobs (at a few hospitals, schools and a college) while studying.

I have an honorary degree in Biomedical Sciences (all the -ologies) and a masters in Pharmacological Sciences, my masters degree contains 3, 60 credit modules, its is mostly Pharma-based and 1 of the modules is a "Teaching Science" based.

I also have privately tutored at university once or twice (sports science and nursing students) and exam invigilated in schools for a few months.

I am finishing my masters at the moment, but meanwhile I'm wondering:

*Can I "shadow or watch" a College/FE Teacher for a week or so? just to verify this "is me" and conform this career choice. If so how do I apply for this?

*Am i suitable to be "taken on" as a FE level teacher?

*the 1 out of the 3 master degree's module, which is "Teaching Science" is not a PGCE or other traditional teaching qualification but in its own right is a "PG Certificate", is this acceptable to teach with?

*Is there any other work experiences eg: classroom assisting? that is needed to add to my advantage for when I do apply to be a FE teacher of Science?

Thank you

You do not need a teaching qualification to teach in a FE College in the UK.

However you will be expected to obtain one in-service during the first two years or so of taking up an appointment.

To obtain a post in FE

    (1) Look in the Times Educational Supplement every Friday

    (2) Look in local press

    (3) Look at college websites.

    (4) Send your CV and/or a letter similar to your question text here to the Principal of a College.

    (5) Likewise write to the Principal to inquire about shadowing etc.

As someone who used to interview and offer jobs to lecturers in one of the biggest FE colleges in the country, please take the following comment in a positive sense.

How you started your question would not impress prospective employers. It could be construed as that you have avoided working full-time at a "proper" job for 23 years, which I am sure is not the case.

before each and every thing, and maximum seriously, you elect a sturdy technology degree. To be in tremendous call for and get a job in truly a lot any section get a Physics degree. Physics instructors are in tremendous call for everywhere. to coach as a technology instructor you'll likely qualify for a furnish (bursary). i'm shocked on the shortcoming of advice you're saying is available, contact the careers provider. finally, training must be annoying notwithstanding that is amazingly helpful. i understand, i have been doing it for 35 years.
