Difference between ram and flash?

What is ram and what is flash on my blackberry? On bejoose my memory optimizer it says how much ram and flash I have

    Flash is basically the internal memory of your phone while RAM would be written on Gsmarena after the CPU speed. The new smartphones usually come with 1Gb and 512Mb ram!

    ram vanishes once the power disconnected or the app closes. flash won't unless you or any program rewrites it or deletes it. volatile and non volatile
