Relative Speed, an easy question, but I'm unsure?

If a car moving 5kph overtakes a stationary car.

Does it take the same speed to overtake that car if its going 105 kph, and the other going at 100 kph.

The relative speed is always 5 kph

    In general, if you have an object A with velocity v_a and

    another object B with velocity v_b, then the difference:

    v_b - v_a

    will give you the speed of B relative to A, as though A is stationary and observing B

    In particular,

    v_a - v_a = 0, so a moving object has relative velocity 0 compared to itself.

    This is true for vectors using vector subtraction, not just speed (scalars).

    The same speed or the same time? Yes it would take the same amount of time for both situations, assuming they are both the same distance from the other car.
