If someone sent me an email that they wish to "recall" it is possible to do so once I have opened it?

If they are able to, can you explain how this is done?

No. A "recall" notice just means that the sender wants you to ignore it, take no action, do not respond, etc. etc. It means he/she either sent it out by mistake or they resolved the issue. They cant reach into your inbox and take the email back.
