I haven't worked in two years, I've been applying for jobs but no one is calling me back?

It's been almost two years since I've had a job. Before that I worked in restaurants as a bartender and server. I left the last job I had because I wanted to get my associate's degree. Now I want to spend a year working full time before I transfer to a university and then I want to work part time. I've sent my application and resume off to many different restaurants but I haven't heard back from any of them. Is the fact I haven't been working for two years hurting my chances of getting a new job?

The same thing happened to by boyfriend because he watched the kids while I worked for the last 6 years. He really doesn't even have many discernible skills, even. You just have to keep at it. Usually on an application there is room to explain any lapses in work history. Get together some really good stories for that. If there isn't a place, you can include your really good excuse on your resume. But for the most part, just keep at it. Times are still tough out there and it's persistence that pays.
