Why do people even thing that there's a distinction between Obama and Romney?

http://www.politicalcompass.org/uselection2012

Please, bear with the article. From what it says though, the only presidential candidate who was any kind of different from the others was Ron Paul. All the rest of them might as well be the same person. Democrat, Republican, it all has no meaning in this election. Conservative and liberal still have meaning, but liberals, like myself, should realize that it's entirely pointless to support the democratic party and especially Obama. He does not represent what you believe in, especially not economically though the occasional social bill goes through like repealing DADT.

Update:

@Eisenhower Something has gone horribly wrong when you consider your vote as for the lesser of two evils. Something needs to change in the system. Even as young as I am, I felt no enthusiasm for Obama in 08. I feel nothing but distaste for this new crop of candidates and that's not how it should be. I want to dive head first into politics and feel engaged, to find a candidate that has a shot at winning who actually represents something close to my beliefs.

Update 2:

@Jim I did not say I supported Ron Paul, just that he was the only one that was different from the rest. I myself fall into the bottom left quadrant on this quiz. Paul's ideas on going back to the gold standard and deregulating and privatizing everything are NOT what I want. The only way I'd want Paul is with a democratically controlled house and senate so he gets to end the wars and strike a blow or two the the MIC but little else.

It all comes down to voting for the lesser of two evils this November. It shouldn't be that way, but there's not much to do about it

Because there is a distinction on social issues. Democrats do not want to regulate the bedroom, women's wombs, etc. The right, to which Romney is currently pandering, does. There is also a distinction on fiscal issues. The democrats want a balance of new revenue (tax monies) and cuts as proposed last summer. The right does not. On foreign policy, Democrats tend toward walking softly but carrying a big stick. The right toward waving the stick and threatening to use American power.

As for Ron Paul, he would lean right on social issues. Although I would agree with some of his fiscal approaches, he would decimate the safety nets. His foreign policy is essentially isolationism, with which I don't agree in an increasingly global community that is so interconnected and likely to become more so.

Both Romney and Obama support UN Agenda 21, Ch. 18 (Sustainable Development) to the amount of $2 Trillion over 10 years for the Clean Water Act and $1 Trillion per year in Carbon Taxes.

For septic system, plumbing & water supply maintenance use the all-natural http://www.millerplante.net/ Advanced Formula Septic-Helper 2000 and Enza Drain Line Cleaner. It has the 8 natural bacteria and enzymes that digest the waste in the tank AND out in the drain field. To reduce your Phosphate and Nitrate levels to Zero coming from your Laundry, use their new All-Natural Enza Wash-Balls. According to the EPA, Chemicals used in the home are the #1 problem polluting water supplies and water wells.

In 2011, the EPA (TMDL), Mandates that States clean up their water supplies. It mandates new inspections on all septic systems, water wells and with funding, local waterways. A failed inspection would include a slow drain in your leach field, low septic tank bacteria levels or elevated Nitrate levels in your Water Well or local Water Supplies; could require replacement of your entire system for $10K to $80K+ or connect to the city sewer system for $5K to $40K. The EPA admits that the new inspections are failing 12% of systems each year and 82% of those older than 1977.

I will vote for Ron Paul in the Texas primary, but probably Obama in Nov.

The majority of Americans are party voters. They vote for their team, not for individual candidates.

I don't know about "party" but I do know about "issue". I take a look at the issues that are important to me in my life, based on my personal experience, and vote for the candidate who supports most of them. If there is a conflict, I have to figure out which issue is more important. Here are a few examples -

I have never benefitted from a Union. I have had many jobs in my life, only one of which was a Union job. I have never felt screwed, abused, mistreated, or lacking in salary, benefits, sick time, vacation time or fair treatment - except for the Union job. In all my other jobs, my promotions were based on merit - in my Union job they were based on "Fairness" and "Seniority" regardless of what I was able to do for the company. The Union job forced me to join or be fired; when I claimed my "Beck Rights" to have my dues reduced by the percentage my Union donated to political causes, I was blackballed and had to quit. To the extent that Obama is very much "Pro-Union", I will vote against him on that issue.

I am in favor of gay people being able to enjoy whatever rights they want under our system, but I am against gay marriage - because I think it is a signal to the government that they can define marriage for us. I am in favor of the government just getting out of the marriage business altogether, and offering "civil unions" across the board - this goes for straight people, gay people, asexual people, brothers, sisters, any two people who want to partner up for any reason. I am therefore neutral on this issue - neither candidate supports my position.

I am very much against Obamacare. I think it is bad law. To whatever extent I believe our system may be broken, to whatever extent I would like to see the millions of uninsured people gain access to free or low-cost healthcare, I do not believe Obamacare has the answer. For this government to force-feed us 2,000 + pages of legislation, loopholes, details, circumstance and penalty is a massive overreach and I dread the day that all the fights and court cases and additional expenses come out. When Romney says he will move to repeal Obamacare on day 1, I'm for it. I think that is the first step in truly finding a solution to our healthcare problem.

I am very much in favor of increased oil exploration, drilling, refining, transportation and production in this country. I am in favor of the Keystone Pipeline. I am in favor of drilling in ANWR and in the Bakken reserve. Romney is too - Obama is not.

So there may not be much difference between the candidates, and I believe that also. I think that if a high-level government official seems clean and honest, it just means that he hasn't gotten caught yet. I don't care about Obama's birth certificate or if he ate a dog or is a closet Muslim. I don't care if Romney's father was a Mexican or if his dog suffered on top of his car or if he wears "magic underwear".

I care about the economy, I want the real estate market to "come back" so I can sell my house. I believe Obama had his chance and his philosophy does not work. I believe that the repeal of Obamacare will help substantially. I believe that increased oil production will help substantially. I care about the cost of my commute to work, and the cost of my travel. Under Obama, the price of gas in my area has gone from $2 to $4 per gallon I'd like to see if increased production will work on that regard.

i don't support the "Republican Party". I support the candidate that aligns with what matters to me.

I've been screwed that way before, I'll be screwed that way again, but I don't know any other way to do it.

There are small and trivial differences. Neither will take any actions to improve the lot of the nation but, IMO, 0dingus is the worse of the two if only because he has nothing to lose if reelected.

Obama says what he believes. Romney says what he thinks will sell to the electorate.
