Can my job fire me for being pregnant?

I just got hired two weeks ago for a care giving job which requires me to assist in transferring a 200lb man. I also just found out I am about a month pregnant and I know I cannot continue to lift that much weight and I need to tell the company. Can they fire me because my position requires lifting? It is with an agency and they send me to clients homes.

In the US you can't be fired soley for being pregnant however you can be fired for not being able to do your job, being pregnant is not blanket protection and unless you are in CA you have no eligible leave for your pregnancy, employers do not have to honor any restrictions your Dr may place on you.

I don't think its legal to fire you for being pregnant. My job had to put me in the office tp do paper work when I had weight limits. They have to find something for you to do

Legally they can't fire you because you are pregnant. Once you tell them they will probably try and find a way to lighten your workload.

If you are already contracted for a certain period, they have to find suitable alternative work for you until that contracted period expires, but an agency doesn't *have* to find you any employment at all.
