Never write an essay with personal pronouns. Change them to "one". As in one would, one should, what have you. Writing essays in personal pronouns is a good way to get an F.

you could try saying:
In my opinion/experience
My experiences have shown me
But really, unless I read the essay I couldn't offer alternatives, and in a personal essay using "I" is going to happen. there isn't a lot of ways to avoid it
