Day Rate based on a 10 hour shift?

I am paid a day rate at my job based on a 10 hour day here in Florida, how does it work if I go over the ten hours? Is just like a regular salary no matter if I work 2 hours or 20 hours I get paid the day rate or can I legally charge for another day. I usually work 11 to 12 hours a day, 5 days a week. I just want to make sure my employer is not getting one up on me.

You probably should be getting overtime at time-and-a-half for those hours that you work in excess of 40 hours per week. If, however, you are an exempt employee, your employer would not necessarily be required to pay overtime. You don't give enough detail here for anyone on Yahoo! Answers to tell you whether or not your employer needs to pay you overtime. You could contact the Florida Department of Labor for more information. If you tell them about your situation, they can give you a better answer.
