What does the name Moraine mean?
I'm doing a project for World History and I need to know the meaning of my middle name, Moraine. I can't find the meaning ANYWHERE and it was my great grandmother's name which explains why it's not on the internet.... Anyone know? Thanks. I know exactly what it means. It comes from the irish surname Moran, pronounced (MOR- RAN) like you "ran" away. Variants of this name are traced back to celtic irish and scottish heritage. other pronounciations are MOR- RYN like rin tin tin sound, and MOR - RAINE like rain drops.
It means "large, vast, and great" think 'from the great mountain' or 'from the vast ocean', in that kind of context. It is a descriptive surname that now is a unisex first name.
