Travel tips for Sardinia, Italy?

Me and my boyfriend are thinking of going to Sardinia for one week this august. We originally planned on going to Alghero but now we are leaning towards Olbia. We are going to rent a car, but as the island is very big we probably won't be able to see all of it in one week. I would like to hear any advice / tips on:

- What are the restaurant prices in the Olbia area? (normal restaurants, not necessarily high end restaurants)

- What is there to see and do in the Olbia area?

- Any other usefull tips would be much appreciated as we know very little about Sardinia :-) Thanks!!

I believe that the area of Alghero is much more particular and characteristic ...

is the only area outside of Spain where Catalan is spoken, the city is rich in medieval history, the food is delicious, the beaches are beautiful and less crowded than the area of Olbia.

I was in a rented house in the historic center and I spent a wonderful holiday.

I paste here the link of their site, I believe that it will be unforgettable holiday in Sardinia:

olbia is in the costa smeralda, the vip place of sardinia. so if you go to porto rotondo and porto cervo try to don't eat at the restaurant because are expencives respect other places in costa smeralda.

in any case generally in a costa smeralda's restaurant a pasta with seafood cost 10 euros and a pizza margherita 5 euros. if you add water (2 euros) and the service (in italy there aren't tips because there is the coperto that means the service - 2 euros) you could eat pasta or pizza at the restaurant with 10-15 euros.

I've visited many beaches, the sea is beautiful, and yes porto rotondo, porto cervo, arzachena (there are the nuraghes, is the main type of ancient megalithic edifice found in Sardinia, likely developed during the Nuragic Age between 1900-730 BC), palau, santa teresa di gallura and stintino (the farther but the more beautiful town). the last but not the least La Maddalena archipelago, if you go to Palau harbour you could ask for a touring day between the various uninhabited islands and its beautiful beaches, it seems to be at the caribbean.

Why don't you rather try the east coast - it is incredible. Check out these five beaches...http://www.my-italy-piedmont-marche-and-more.com/b... . There are some great little seaside towns like Cala Gonone too.
