The throttle cable on my 74 bug snapped/broke today?

Was wondering if there is a way to jerry rig it in order for me to drive her to the garage versus having her towed.

Not a chance. Just order a new cable & do it yourself. It's one of the easiest things to do on an ACVW. Just loosen the screw on the carb & pull out the rear broken section, then pull the front section out down by the pedal & detach. Attach the new cable to the pedal, feed it through it's tube, go back to the engine compartment & guide it thru the fan shroud & reattach it to the carb. Should take all of 10 minutes.

the 74 had a big back bumper, have someone sit back there and run the throttle while you drive and shift!

If you had some long strong cord, maybe tie it to the throttle, pull and go?

Source(s): Made it 4 hours thru the back roads of Mexico that way! VWS FOREVER!
