Do racist bible-belt Americans even realise that by law and by human right, Obama is allowed to be a Muslim?

He's allowed by your law, and by basic decency to be a Branch Davidian Scientologist Raelian if he likes.

Update:

"The debate your talking about is....."

Actually I just perceive it to be thinly veiled racism and religious prejudice.

Update 2:

The right to disagree with his choice, God Is Good?

Is that the "right" to be racist? The "right" to hate-speech? The "right" to offend? The "right" to hypocrisy? The "right" to defame, criticise and be a bigot? You Americans take your "free speech" beyond the realms of decency.

Update 3:

Keep in mind, you're talking to the same group of people that still insist he was born in Kenya even though his birth certificate has been posted all over the internet.

Some do, some don't. Most don't care about the law. Those who look down upon someone for being Muslim won't vote for a man who is.

Racism and religious fanaticism exist outside of the Bible Belt. I learned about it in my own home in Northern Ohio. When I moved to Kentucky and Missouri, it was nothing new.

They don't, darling, because many of them combine nasty bigotry with blatant ignorance. Of course the president is allowed to be a Muslim under the Constitution and the clearly expressed will of the founders.

These dimwits don't even realize, as they wrap themselves in the flag and claim that their objections to the president solely on the grounds that he's a Muslim are patriotic, that the Constitution's sole mention of religion (other than the First Amendment) is to specifically state that no religious test shall ever be imposed on those seeking office.

It's not just limited to the president and being a Muslim, though - my own mother is still vaguely fearful that it's illegal for me to be an atheist. She keeps trying to hush it up so as not to "cause problems" for me.

And, of course, Ummer's answer clearly indicates that it's not just Bible-belters. Just idiots.

    (((Mike Hunt)))

The hypocrisy of these folks never ceases to amaze me - if I said I would refuse to vote for a candidate purely because he's a Christian, they'd shriek about persecution and prejudice and call me closed-minded and hate-filled...yet they'll do the exact same thing about a member of another religion and proudly and smugly display their self-satisfied bigotry for all to see.

    Unfreakingreal.

Added: I get a real kick out of the dimwits on here and in real life who don't take Obama's word that he's a Christian, but have decided on their own that he's a Muslim and then condemn him for lying about being a Christian based entirely on something they made up in their heads, but who also, separately, complain about the beliefs or words of the pastor of the Christian church he's attended for 20 years or so. They don't see the disconnect there, and I find that both laughable and pathetic.

However, I'd rather have them speaking what constitutes their minds, and displaying their idiocy and hypocrisy, darling, than not. They do have the right to say what they think - and then rational people have the right to tell them to their faces that they are gullible, racist dimwits.

My grandmother always said that sunlight was the best disinfectant...and darling Jack's lovely answer reminds me of that.

People do have the right to be racist, and the right to be bigots, and the right to be unpleasant in so many ways, darling, and to speak about their sometimes disgusting beliefs. It's easy to tolerate and allow speech that isn't ugly or nasty or hateful or grim, and it's often very tempting to want to ban the promotion of hate and bigotry and ideas that are disgusting to the majority...but if speech can be banned based on the ugliness of the ideas held by an individual, then it isn't free, and if we can deny civil rights to one group of people because of what they believe or say, then none of us have civil rights - we only have civil privileges.

It's not easy or decent, you're right...but the civil rights of the most loathsome members of a society are often the ones that are the most important to protect.

I live in a small county in the Bible belt of America. I have over 250 relatives who are mostly all Baptists.

In privacy most of them (if not all of them) still discriminate against black people and any other race that is not snowy white in skin color. And they especially discriminate against Obama for his skin color. They still call Obama a Muslim, but their biggest discrimination is because of his skin tone.

Like I said, they discriminate in privacy -- even though they say in public that they have "nothing against 'colored' people." Here in Arkansas, during the McCain - Obama election in 08, Arkansas voted a landslide in favor of a senile old man (McCain). They were not motivated to vote for McCain, they were motivated to vote against Obama because of his skin tone.

Obama was elected in 08 because the independent voters selected him by a landslide. Mark my words, the outcome of the 2012 election will depend again on educated independent voters.

Does the prejudice troll, Mike Hunt (as if that's a real name), even realize that people do not care if he chose to be a Muslim, but the fact that if he was, he failed to mention it?

Yes Christians most definitely understand things like laws, rights, proper grammar and driving etiquette. But they choose to ignore things, like the truth. Give 'em a break leave them alone, they're busy monologuing with god!

"And no, Muslims are not allowed in the White House as they hate America". Really? Home of the brave and land of the free? What bullshit.

That is a pretty generalized comment about Americans. Which bible-belt Americans specifically are racist? Because, while there may be a few, not all are.

Freedom of religion and freedom of speech are Constitutional rights. Morals are in the realm of the Church and not part of the Constitution. If you want to address decency then leave the Constitution out of it and discuss religious philosophy.

they realise but after the 9/11 they just think all muslims to be complete terrorists when they arent. and if he is muslim there is no reason for him to hide it and be ashamed cos there is nothing wrong with being one and besides he is the president so he can do whatever he likes.

  • Then why does he lie and pretend to be a Christian? And no, Muslims are not allowed in the White House as they hate America. We may consider a non-Christian or deist/ Buddhist under the constitution but never an Islamist. Atheists who do not know the difference between Islam and other religions are truly ignorant.

Your question is extraordinarily offensive and the bible-belt as you put it isn't just a blanket of racism. No one cares if Obama is Muslim that isn't the point its that he claims to be Christian. He has lied about himself over and over again and been caught. He is seen as fake or phony. Do you understand?
