Young Adult fiction too commercial and appealing to Twilight fans?
Is it just me, or are Teen and Young Adult fiction all the same nowadays? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the immortal-vampire-fallen angel-demon genre getting old? I look at young adult sections frequently no matter where I go be it Target or some other retailer, and almost every fiction book is fashioned after Twilight or "half demon half human" nonsense. I can't forget to mention how annoying it is when you actually want to pick up one of these books only to discover it's part of a series. Don't get me wrong, because some of it can be pretty good; the only one that stands out, in my opinion, is The Hunger Games trilogy. Though I've never read Harry Potter books, there's no denying how successful these books are, but who will step up and be different?

Science fiction has always been popular with youth, that's why there's so many science fiction books written for children. It captures their imagination. I don't see anything wrong with authors creating books that children are going to enjoy reading. It's hard enough trying to get a stubborn child to read when they aren't interested. Once they find a genre they enjoy, which tends to be the fantasy/science fiction genre, they're going to want to stick with it. Why discourage that? They're reading, that's all that matters.

Well, if you can't step up and 'be different' then you can't complain. The reason you see these types of books in teh shelves is because they're selling. The reason why you see so many series is because...they sell well. That should be a given. Bookstores don't stock books that don't sell. I hated the Hunger Games. Not something I aspire to as a writer and the writing was a bunch of crock, though it was much better than Fallen and Twilight.
Perhaps you should keep up with the genres. Dystopian is all the rage and is saturating the market right now. Angels and demons are so last year's trend. Vampires ended its rein 3 years ago. Dystopian seems to be winding down now, too. The next trend might be novels about geeks because publishers are seeing a lot of them and are buying them, though technically it's readers who determine the trends, not publishers. Even mermaids had a little go at it. According to literary agents, paranormal romance is very hard to break into unless you have something that really stands out and is original and well written. But, lets face it, most writers on this site aren't yet good enough to be published, so you can rest easy that you won't see their so-called cliche stories in your local bookstore anytime soon. :D
Personally, I don't mind a good vampire or fallen angel romance. As long as the plot is original. And for vampires, as long as it brings something new to the world or trope of vampires. And I still love me a good old fashioned vampire romance. Thank you very much.
And, if you're looking for regular teen fiction there's lots out there: The Possibility of Miracles. Perfect Chemistry. Breaking Beautiful. Catching Jordan. Etc. Etc.

I totally agree with you!
It seems to me that a book shouldn't even be written if it's going to be the same as the plots of twenty other young adult novels.
The same old thing gets old, in my opinion. And personally, I was never a fan of though whole teens-falling-in-love-with-immortals-and-strange-creatures theme in the first place.

I used to flinch on the assumption of sci-fi, till I took a type stated as "Sci-fi short thoughts," and then i found accessible have been technological understanding fiction novels that exist exterior the area of conflict Of the Worlds. a number of my favorites are Evil Genius, Ender's interest, Artemis chicken, and a team of stuff via Scott Westerfeld.
