swapping my hard drive?

i have an old computer with an 80 gb hard drive sitting doing nothing so i'm gonna put it into my newer computer , i know how to do it and that shouldn't be a problem i just need to know if my old hard drive could be formatted or would removing the windows files cause problems even though i will only be using it for storage

basically can i clear the old hard drive of everything so i have the full 80 gigs

Update:

yes, you can reformat the drive.

May be a problem with the connections.

If its an old drive then it will probably have PATA connections (parallel connections)

A new PC will almost certainly use SATA connections (serial)

if the drive does not fit the new PC you could buy a PATA / SATA connector converter or us an HDD enclosure e.g. 'icybox' but make sure you get one with the correct connections.

    good luck

Hmm! 80GB, sounds like it could be an IDE drive. I have just done a quick search and there are a number of IDE to SATA adapters available and they don't seem to be that expensive either.
