in what states is it Illegal to have a gay marriage? not that i'm gay, but i have a cuzion and quite a few friends that are. the only one i know for sure is NC

It's illegal in 44 states. Too many to name. It's legal in New York Iowa Connecticut New Hampshire Vermont Massachusetts.

It's not really "illegal", in the sense that it is a crime, anywhere.
Most States do not recognize Gay Marriages and will not issue marriage licenses to gay couples. Only a handful (5 or 6 I believe) of States will issue marriage licenses to gay couples. When people say they want to legalize gay marriage, it just means they want States to recognize the marriages.
