Buying used laptop from cowboom, no operating system, but comes with key?

Looking to buy a gateway laptop.

What's Included:

15.6" Laptop - Black, Battery, Ac Adapter, Ac Power Cord, Operating System License Key

Not Included:

Installed Operating System, Installation Disc, Application Disc, Drivers Disc, Manuals

So it comes with a key for windows, but doesn't have it installed. Talking to cowboom and gateway gave no help. How do I use the key to get windows on the laptop? Or to know if this is even possible and I would have to buy windows .

You need to call Microsoft support and ask them if you can use that key...i.e., if it's transferable. If not, you'll need to purchase a new Windows package. If it is valid, you can probably download it from Microsoft. Personally, I'd go with Ubuntu. It's open source, free, and comes with more opensource and free software, like Libre Office, which will read and write Windows compatible documents. You'll never pay for an OS again.

i would recommend not buying this computer. It means it has an activation key but doesnt actually have the OS media you need to install it.

Its not really a personal use computer, looks more like its for enterprise use where they would use the same media on 200+ computers.
