Can you convert Indian currency in the US?
By Indian currency I mean hard cash, like paper money (not money in the bank). Is it possible to convert a large amount of paper Rupees into US dollars inside the US? Like can you carry the paper money to US and convert it to dollars there?
Other question is: Can you send local Rupees through bank transfer to the US?

If you are carrying more than Rs.10000/- you have to declare at the Customs in India & at US Immigration office while entering US.This declared currency can be converted with any of the exchange house but you may get less than US$200.So there is no point in carrying Indian currency to US.Best would be to remit it from India through bank subject to certain specified purpose of which details can be sought from any of the foriegn exchange dealing branch of any bank.
