Have any authors said they have dreamt up their ideas literally?
I began writing but I got a writer's block but then I had ya dream that terrified me. When I work up I instantly thought "I should write this". Has this happened to other authors?

Stephanie Meyers dreamt up the Twilight series based on a dream where she was in a meadow and saw sparkling Edward. But, then again, Dumbledore says it does no good to dwell on dreams! ;P
I've had experiences like that too. I'd dream something and feel like writing it down. Then, I'd try to and... fail horribly.

Yes. Stephanie Meyer says she dreamt of the meadow scene in Twilight and started writing from there.

Rowling didn't really initially dream of Harry, but she dreamt of the story at some point, when it was still fresh in her mind, while on a train. And, yeah, Meyer.

Yes, and it's not a new phenomenon.
Both Edgar Rice Burroughs ("Tarzan"), and Harriet Beecher Stowe ("Uncle Tom's Cabin"),
claimed to have literally dreamed up their plotlines and characters.

Robert E Howard (of Conan fame) claimed that Conan's (or somebody's) ghost stood at his shoulder and dictated the stories to him - not a dream exactly but close.
