my friends collie keeps trying to bury its food why does it do this?

My friend think's its because the younger dog keeps trying to steal his food and he is hiding it from her. But he only eats grass now.Why does he do this

    He could be attempting to cache food, which means he's storing it to be eaten later (when it won't be stolen or when he's hungrier).

    ALL dogs have SOME wolf genes in them; It's a natural instinct !

    its superfluous, he's not really hungry so like many animals he'll store it for when he is.
