is lying a side effect of major depression?

does anyone know if lying to family and friends goes with major depression i have a friend that lies sometimes about things in his life our friends and myself see no reason as to why he does this and he cant tell us any reason that is valid

    Sometimes people with depression will lie to 'make their lives seem more interesting. If your friend lies they will get attention, good or bad, therefore they may feel a bit better.

    On the other hand, if they lie and say positive things, they may be pretending their life is better than it is to help them feel better

    No, I don't think it is..personality disorder, or anxiety..maybe but not major depression.
