can an insurance company unblock an imei number if you are willing to pay for it?

i got my nephew a blackberry torch on contract last year he misplaced it so i claimed on the insurance they replaced it the original one turned up and i was wondering if i contacted them would they unblock the imei number if i paid them to as my phone is starting to go and i cant get a new one till march 2013

    The imei is blocked by the mobile networks, it is not blocked on the phone.

    Only the person/entity that reported it lost/stolen can ask the network to unlock.

    You can unlock your blackberry phone by entering an unlock code which you can get online for less than 2 bucks. Your phone will be unlocked instantly and you'll be able to use it with any sim card from any country.
