    If you are gainfully employed, you might consider buying a house while prices and interest rates are down. Do not lock up your money in an IRA. {In a couple years you could buy a car for cash - saving a lot on interest expense << for example.} - - {if your job is at risk, the 21K is a nice cushion of "emergency savings" to get you [and your unemployment checks] to your next job.}

    keep enough in your bank accounts to avoid bank charges, overdraft fees; and have the ability to pay your bills on time. Considering you have 21k, you should have no debt out over 30 days.

    Keep on keeping on, and when you get to 40+ then think about setting aside actual dollars for retirement.

    Put that 21K in a roth ira. You're well on your way to early retirement! Congratulations! By the way you should have about 1,500 in your checking account
