What happens when a Monk leaves the Shaolin temple?

I'm curious, people leave religions all the time so why do we never see Shaolin in athletics?

I mean some of them would truly kick @ss in the Olympic gymnastics.

So what do they do when they leave the temple? Take up a job and fade into obscurity? Teach a tiny little class where nobody can see? Wander off into the mountains? Westerners claim to teach authentic Shaolin all the time but I've never seen an Easterner claiming to teach the art.

Is temple life that good that they never leave?

Does somebody silence them?

shaolin temple in china, is just for tourism, and is run by the government, it has little to do with real martial arts any more.

if they leave that temple they will have to get a different job.

In my life, I have known 2 men who were Shaolin Monks and I know of 3 others by career.

The first, well, technically never became a Monk. His grandfather was a former Monk and he was forced to learn Kung fu. He left when he was 7 and join a Hong Kong Mafia. He was 40 when I met him. Staunch, tattooed and full of stories about how he killed for a Mafia and killed for a Government. I don't remember his name because I was only 14 when we trained together. He was very, VERY strong.

The second is XJ Wang. He's left the Shaolin Temples and has gotten into teaching martial arts and working in stunts for TV shows and movies. You may know him from the show "Deadliest Warrior" as the Shaolin Monk. He is one of few men I have men who can pull a car with his balls. Seriously, you can kick him as many times as you want, he won't go down. You can punch him as hard as you want but he won't go down.

The others I've heard of but haven't met have gone on to own their own gyms, teach Kung Fu in small gyms to little kids and people. They're still Buddhist but now they're into the party life and acting normal.

One has gone on to make a lot of movies now. He's a 36th generation Shaolin Monk and he's acting in movies like Kung Fu Hustle and Ip Man... and he dies in every single movie.

I think so. Maybe not a Warrior Monk, that must require years of training, but I believe most Temples are happy to accept pilgrims.

I would assume they would try to lead a usual life because they have been doing shaolin kung fu all their life, they probably don't see the commercial reasoning of teaching kung fu that you see so much nowadays.

Why would they continue kung fu if they have left the temple? Kung fu is their way of life so they don't believe in the sport aspect of martial arts or competing at all in that matter
