Adobe Illustrator CS5 Help?

I want to cut a hole in an object and I want the hole to be in the shape of some text that I've typed. How do I do this? I'm assuming I expand the text so that it's just vector shapes, which I've already done, then what? Do I use the Pathfinder Palette, and if so which option? And what do I have to group anything? Thanks in advance.

Yes, you need to expand or outline your text, ungroup the text (which would have been grouped automatically after expanding it) then select all the text and select 'add' in the pathfinder tool box. Then bring the text to the front. place it in position select both the text and the object and use 'subtract' in the pathfinder toolbox.

    hope this helps :)

I'm assuming you know how to use Photoshop, so I will explain this in the steps you have to do, and I won't explain exactly how to do it. Hopefully it will be detailed enough :-)

First you have to resterize (spelling?) The text. Select each letter and move them to their own layer.

Next make a selection of the letter by selecting the layer, go to the selection section on the menu on top and choose load selection... tell it to load the layer.

Now, take this selection and move it over the object you want to cut into.

Once it is positioned and how you want it, select the layer with the object you are cutting into and you can either simply press delete, or press the mask button on the layer palette.

That should be it! Just repeat that step of selecting letter, positioning the selection, and then deleting or masking.

    Hope that helps.
