Facebook Status Dilemma?

I am recently divorced after 2 years (I'm 20 years old). We had been separated for 7 months and now it's final.

I want to add "divorced" to my timeline because I want people to know that we are officially over.

However, I don't want it to look like I'm "advertising" my problems; I simply want to tell everybody at once and get it over with.

What do you think?

Don't worry about what other people will think. It's not advertising, it's just stating the truth. Do what you gotta do and not worry about anyone else's feelings about how you do it. If they think it is tacky or like you're advertising than too bad for them. It can be a huge hassle trying to break the news to everyone at once without having to tell them one by one so it makes perfectly good sense to just change your status on facebook and let everyone figure out that way. Or you could make a general post about it and let everyone know that way and tell them you don't really care to talk about it but you just wanted to let everyone know what's been going on in your life.

Lydia, I don't know what your previous status was, but instead of divorced, I feel single would relay the message clearly that you in fact are SINGLE. I loathe Face Book with a passion after reading ALL the marriages/relationships/cheating it involves. I deleted myself OFF it & want no parts of it. The problems it causes couples are so utterly hurting it's disgusting & heartbreaking to so many. Granted it may have its good points, but I've read ONLY the BAD points. IF you previously had "separated" then by putting "single" will definitely be noticeable...all the best to you with your new life...:)

  • Changing your relationship status isn't advertising your problems it's simply making it known that you are divorced. i wouldn't look at it that way at all!!! if you were posting status updates every ten minutes about your problems then it's advertising your problems. :) go ahead and let the world know it's official!

Honestly, on most of those kind of websites I already have something strange and bizarre up like "In a serious relationship with a Tralphagmaphapatorian". Its not such a big deal on facebook, though. Really. Just say your in a relationship or not. Nothing to get too worked up over.

If your Facebook relationship status reads "in a relationship" then change it for sure.

But if it says that you're single then don't worry about posting "divorced". Only close friends would be interested in that. Although, they still probably aren't all that interested.

I did not advertise my status because it was no one's business. Only if you are looking for a date, would you need to "advertise" your "divorced" status.

It's your facebook, so change it to divorced. Just don't make statuses about getting divorced, poor you, etc. That would be advertising your problems.

I think the best thing to do is to be honest with who you are. Sooner or later, everyone is going to find out. So, what's the different? At least we are honest and not lying about anything.

NO, it is not an advertisement. It is about life.

Why don't you jau edit the relationship status part oF your page out? You don't have to tell anyone what's going on.

I'm sure if you just changed your relationship status to "single" people will get the idea.
