Land hermit crab questions.?

I just came back from Orange Beach, AL and I bought 2 hermit crabs while I was there.

OK.... well I was in the kitchen this morning and I noticed my bigger crab was huddled up in his shell and I looked on Google and they actually sleep.. thats cool.. but anyways I need to know a couple of things about them.

I have some food for them from the FMR ( Florida Marine Research) and I don't see them eating any of it and also i have a few pieces of carrot in their cage and 1 is missing so I guess one of them ate it during the night. I was wondering about if that is a good brand of food for them... and i also put in an older sea shell i found a while back and i cleaned it very well and pt in some fresh water so they could get in it as they please.

And if they don't eat this food, what brand is good that they might eat?? Thank you for the help! :D

please google land hermit crab care to be sure you are housing these crabs properly ... usually when people buy them when on beach vacations, buy them from concessions where the crabs are kept completely inappropriately and the care instructions are usually 100% wrong ... like if you have these crabs in a plastic critter keeper, that is wrong ... if the substrate is not sand and/or coconut fibre, that is wrong (so no gravel, no coloured hermit crab sand) ... the tank (not critter keeper) needs to be heated to pushing 80 degrees ... the tank requires a solid lid to hold in the humidity ... hermit crabs breathe through modified gills, kinda like fish, and if there is not enough humidity in the tank they slowly and painfully suffocate ... the humidity should be pushing 80% ... the shell you found needs to be boiled and cooled before being used in the tank ... and i would toss that FMR food in the garbage ... one of its ingredients is copper sulfate which will slowly kill your crab ... you should feed the crab fresh food, mostly protein, then veggies, then fruit, and some other items can be used as treats (mine like cheerios) ... here is a list of how they should be fed - http://www.hermitcrabworld.com/hermit-crab-food-di... ... be sure the crabs have two pools of water, one fresh and one salt (all hermit crabs require access to both types of water) ... the waters for the pools should be made with fish supplies and never hermit crab water supplies ... and for every crab you have there should be three spare shells for them to change into ... NO PAINTED SHELLS !!!

I suggest having the Es in combination in view that hermit crabs are very social. They'll generally get alongside simply high-quality with the PPs, however I suggest retaining a watch on them to make certain no person's at the receiving finish of an excessive amount of aggression. I've saved three PPs and a few (I suppose it was once four or five?) Es in combination in a fifty five gallon and had no brilliant aggression disorders. As continually even though, make certain you could have each contemporary and salt water to be had for the Es, at any place you make a decision to position them.
