    2^a / 2^b = (2)^a-b=x

    C is the correct answer.

dpirsq2, that's wrong. The EXPONENT turns out to be a-b, not x itself.

x actually turns out to be 2^(a-b), so the answer is E. Here's how you get there.

    2^a / 2^b = x

Right off the bat, you can use the quotient-of-powers rule, which says that:

    a^m / a^n = a^(m-n)

    This gives you:

    2^(a-b) = x

So again, the answer is E, "None of these."

Oh, and just to be clear, 2^(a-b) is not the same thing as 2a-b, so the answer is not C either (unless the person who asked the question typed it out wrong).

When dividing with exponents, you subtract the exponents as long as the bases are the same.

The answer is E. None of these

    2^a-b should be the answer.
