The 500 Club is in way north Phoenix and really beautiful. It's in mountains and very well maintained. There is another golf course called Greyhawk in Scottsdale that is good, and the course at the Biltmore is pretty well known. One thing you can do is look up "golf courses" on Yelp. You'll get a lot of opinions and descriptions so you can choose the type of course you like best. Make an early tee time though. Otherwise you'll be golfing in the hottest part of the day, and that is not much fun.

I got one for you besides the TPC @Scottsdale. It's 2 hours north of Phoenix in Sedona. It's called Seven Canyons and it used to be a private club. The economy tanking a few years ago forced it to become a public course and you can play for as little as 50 bucks and as much as 125. The same guy that designed the TPC designed this course. Arizona is a big golf destination and has several excellent courses.
