Infestation of mice in the house?

For some reason, I have mice in the house, and they are not going into the glue traps. Is there some household product to get rid/kill them?

The sticky traps might not be holding them. I've had experience were mice have been able to get off the glue traps. However, try smearing a little peanut butter on the traps to attract them better.

There are many "home" remedies to getting rid of mice, but they are only effective in very limited ways The best way to keep mice down is to have a cat -- even if the cat isn't a hunter, it is a deterrent. I hate to say it, but after a cat, poison is the most effective, with plain old snap-on-the-back traps coming in second. Remember, if you "see" one mouse, there's at least a dozen you don't see.

As for mice in the house, everyone has that problem at some time. Last year was a horror for me -- they proliferated in the mild winter and they'll come for miles for an easy score. I would suggest that you and your family take a day going around your house and basement sealing up any cracks or ways mice can get in (they can squeeze through a hole the size of a penny) and stuff in steel wool (they won't chew through it) or spray in that expanding foam.

    Good luck.

First, you must locate where they are coming into the house. Check all door crevices and replace gasket seals under the door edge. If you have crawl space under your house then mice enters by way of your plumbing to your sinks, tubs, drains and wall space. That's right, that is how mice get into an attic. They crawl up the studs and enter through the holes made for wiring. If you can gain access to the crawl space of your house take some aluminum flashing material. Use the weight that is easy to cut with metal shears are scissors. Trace one side of the pipes or drain on paper. Cut 1/2 side and place it and use small nails or a stapler. Cut the other 1/2 side and overlap. If there is any space around the pipes or drain then cut another piece to cover. You will be surprised to see what the plumber left for you. Enough space for him to make his job easier and enough space for non-invited guests. This is why we find bugs under our sink and cabinets. This is why our water in our tubs will not stay hot very long. This is also why houses catch on fire because the mice eat away at the insulation on wiring in the attic. Just putting out traps is not the solution. Don't leave garbage cans beside your house. If you have a basement caulk and seal any crevice. Caulk around the framework of the house where it meets the foundation. All of this prevention will be well worth it. One other thing if your dryer vent is close to the ground, change it with some modification. There is one with an elbow that allows you to install upright and with a screen that is easy to remove for cleaning. It has a flap that also helps to seal out cold air. Get started on this and you will wish that you had done this a long time ago. I Hate Mice! Jo Ann

have you seen the mice or just droppings and some damage to food and packages...the large out door roach can have droppings larger than mice and will do the damage
