What happens if you eat silica gel?

These little packs of silica gel often come in packaging, saying "Do Not Eat - Throw Away - Desiccant". Which got me wondering, what would happen if you ate it?

It would taste bad. It won't hurt you (much).

Silica gel has a very high affinity for water, meaning it will dry out the tissues it comes into contact with. In itself, the silica gel won't harm you much, but the gel is often doped with poisonous compounds to improve its absorption power, or else with moisture indicators like cobalt salts, which are frequently toxic.

Depends on the amount. Once into the intestine the toxins will get into blood stream provoking an antigen-antibody response. If the amount was big enough that your organism (blood) cannot expulse it through urine it will take you to death.
