what does the general listener think of green day?

Their good, but I wouldn't call them great or amazing as you might hear from their huge fans. I used to be a huge fan, and I have listened to every Green Day CD put out. They're okay now, in the 90s they were good, but some people of their fans say "Dookie" is one of the best punk albums of all time. Not even close, Dookie is a very good album, but nowhere near the best punk albums, it's not even that really punk, because they had signed a huge record deal before making Dookie, and that just breaks the whole rule of punk. It's a pretty good album nonetheless, but I think their best is their 1995 Insomniac or 1992 Kerplunk.

Man Sorry but I'm born after late 1996 so I'm not too much interested on their album dookie but their singles are best,I think American idiot is great describing the story of Jesus of suburbia and also 21st century breakdown as an average but some songs are mind blasting. i think green day listener on today's world may listen to american idiot or 21st century breakdown stuff......

personally dookie is one of my favourite albums but from american idiot onwards just wasnt that interesting for me. i was really exited when i heard the song american idiot but the rest of the album wasnt that great. when 21 century came out i lost all faith in them, but for their new album they have the same manager they had from the dookie album so i have high hopes

They ruined the genre "punk rock." When kids nowadays think of punk rock, they of these corporate bands like Green Day, Blink 182, Good Charlotte etc. When they should really think about bands like Black Flag, Bad Brains, Butthole Surfers, Fugazi etc. Yeah, they just commercialized punk.

I was in front of the tv as MTV debuted every gd video for the first time, I personally like the newer stuff myself as relating to meth songs was hard as I've never tryed it. So never really got into 3/4 of those CDs except for a few songs. I like the American idiot and the other new one as it's like one big story and song strung together. So that's my take on it. Wish MTV still showed all rock, WTF happend?
