Marcberg blows OB4CL2 out of the water. And you know this. Production on Marcberg is spectacular for someone who handled it all on his own. Roc's mc skills are high calibre and smart n snappy, and it knocks oh so hard in the car. Classic status.
Bq: Bahwee - Flavors 2. Its a beat tape so it hits perfection much easier than a vocal album.
lol, alright den. Stale samples that were not only executed better by their predecessors, (OC's Jewelz> Pyrex Vision, Tradg's The Message > Mean Streets plus at least 3 other lazy excavations that suck ballz compared to earlier digs) but compare production credits. Rae's got the best of the best. Roc has himself. How can Rae have a roll call like that and STILL have it come out sounding very predictable and very stagnant. Where's the growth between CL1 and CL2? There's none. He doesn't build on the first one, he just recycles the themes. I'm a long time fan of Rae but if you're going to name the album Part 2, then at least move the easel to a different window.
As for mic skills, Rae has it but not at the huge advantage you seem to be giving him. Anthony Starks spanks him on 10 Bricks, INS on Daggers, GZA on Rob You...it actually makes me laugh how many times he gets caned on his own album from the guests. annnyways, I just think OB4CL2 is not the masterpiece many people think it is, plus I'm a huge Roc stan so I'm biased as hell =\
lololol the image of Rae pouting makes me laugh, he reminds me of a bear. I feel your points, when news spread he was working on CL2 the anticipation was on par with Chronic 2001, blame the perfection of CL1 I guess. And maybe when Roc's Marcberg Reloaded drops, hopefully you can prop him more, he's one of the few still repping a beloved but near-extinct style =)

OB4CL2
Marcberg is just a very good album for me - nothing more. Roc Marciano has come a long way since his Flipmode Squad days but the album's production lacks bite. I think this is a recurring problem with a lot of revivalist trends in hip-hop. It's difficult to make a timeless album that's almost entirely indebted to the past and the music can sound quite vapid - sometimes 'boom bap' and 'soulful' just don't go together...
OB4CL2 is definitely the best Wu-related album of the late '00s and a welcome return to form for Raekwon as a solo artist. Now if Method Man could raise his game that little extra...
BQ: Joni Mitchell - Hejira.
It really doesn't though - well, maybe briefly - before Rae belly flops Roc's whole ****. For a start Raekwon has far more presence even if a certain appeal lies in Roc Marciano's attenuate yet sly delivery. Maybe Marcberg is a little more than just very good but if that's the closest New York can come to a modern-day mafioso classic then there's definitely room for improvement...
I never said OB4LC2 was a masterpiece - I'm not THAT deluded! Still, for a 20+ track album it plays incredibly well and the production retains mettle throughout as well as disclosing all the right thumbprints. You certainly couldn't say such things about Immobilarity, which Rae absolutely ripped from top to bottom, and most other albums in general. I'll admit that some of the samples could have been flipped a little more inventively or replaced with less obvious collector's vinyl fodder (Canal Street is another glaring example) but hyper-cinematic production is always win-win when Chef Raekwon is in maitre d' mode (especially with the ebonics) and OB4CL2 more than provided the trimmings overall.
The hunger wasn't quite there (it hasn't really been for quite some time - Rae seems to love pouting and often comes across a touch dour) but he was still instantly recognizable and I thought he was impressive lyrically. I'd rather a sequel sound like a polished update with just enough divergence than a sonic cesspool of fashionable names with little or no resemblance towards the original. Raekwon has always been rather one-dimensional but then so have a lot of great rappers and OB4CL2 is hardly an anticlimax when it comes to artistry.
Also, I never said Raekwon was miles ahead in terms of mic skills - I said he has considerably more presence and he still does - well sort of! Presence isn't something you're born with but some simply ooze it. In my eyes Roc Marciano represents a growing proportion of modern rappers that are consummate technicians but lack that extra pizazz and personality that made the previous guard so engaging and listenable.

I like Marcberg way more to be honest. The hype for OB4CL2 was too great for me to truly enjoy it.

OB4CL2, better production and I like Rae more than Roc, plus J Dilla and Ghostface made this album twice as good.
