My mom really wants to go to Greece but...?
I know this is totally a first world problem but since we are greek my mom really wants to go (we are "american") but due to the riots and such we'd stick to the islands crete and rhodes. How is greece is it fun? Stll safe enough? Just kinda a general question but whatever. Thanks in advance.

Greece was and always is safe. especially for tourists.
The mostly exaggerated "riots" are a problem that does not happen every day and when it does if affects only a small part of Athens. The rest of Athens usually learns about it from the TV news.
If you will be going to the islands you will most likely hear about any problems tha may happen from the news back home, so don't worry. Nothing is going to happen to you.
Greece is always fun and if you find young people of you age you will have the time of your life.

I'm sure Greece will be safe and fum. You can do all the usual holiday things, and the Greeks are usually warm and welcoming as long as you act like a guest and not a tourist.I lived there for 10 years and miss it a lot. I would go back tomorrow without a second thought if things were different in my life.
Take a look at the articles I have listed below!

I'm greek and we go almost every summer. If i were you i would wait until after greek elections and see how things are then. And yes greece is fun (depening on what you do) However don't go to any island that are close to Turkey (like Chios) because with all the riots going on if a war breaks out thats where its starting.

Greece is perfectly safe , and even in Athens the trouble was confined to a small area around the parliament building .
I was there in May , and had a fine time , and so will you .
And I'm going again in September , and I am confident I will have another good time on holiday .
Dont believe all you see on the T V .

It's as safe as anywhere, perhaps more so. The foreign media always seem to exaggerate any trouble that happens. What about the riots in London last year. Does that mean that no-one should visit England ever again?

it's safe. especially in the islands. i leave in athens and i see all the riots in tv just like you do because they take place in a very small part in central athens. and riots occur once in a month or so . greece is fun, beautiful and peaceful. you should definitely go to rhodes.
Source(s): i live in athens and i stay in my summer house in andros during summer. totally safe. - Anonymous9 years ago
Worried about safety?
But there are also some problems in cities such as Paris, London or New York, yet they are full of tourists all the time...
So why such paranoia?
Don't worry, man ;)

Greece has always been safe, actually it is officially rated as one of the safest countries in the world.
