The Pope is untouchable. If he debated scholars on matters of philosophy and doctrine and failed (which he probably would), how would that look on the "vicar of Christ"?
If you want to keep someone at a certain status, don't give them an opportunity to be proven wrong.

A debate is a formal contest of argumentation in which two opposing people or teams defend and attack a given proposition. This form of verbal battle assumes there will be a winner and a loser.
A dialogue, on the other hand, is a conversation, an exchange of ideas or opinions. All parties learn and grow and can come away as winners.
Christians should witness their faith in dialogue not debate.
With love in Christ.

Because debating over the existence of god is ridiculous, you cannot prove or disprove god. God is a negative like space gnomes, and the burden of proof is on the person claiming it's a positive. The idea that someone can tell you what does and doesn't exist is stupid.

I believe because he transcends the debate, his existence assumes that chest and god are real and all teachings of the church are true.
If he were to debate this, he would be suing there is a possibility that he is wrong, leaving that possibility open to all Catholics.
This is just speculation on my part, of course.
Yeah, what Christian skeptic said.

God is the boss of the Pope; so how could he debate that. Besides, the pope is extremely busy man and may not have enough time to live to ensure the flocks of Christ got tow in line; e.g. tending the 1million aids victim in africa, for one; work for world peace...

He think he's the Vicar of Christ. I don't care what he think, says, or does. His church will fall. Gauranteed.
"Your church will fall too, Christoper. Just like all religion will fade away."
Don't get your hopes up, you will be sadly disappointed.
The only thing fading is your name from the Book of Life.

Possibly because he knows there's no evidence of any such thing, and he doesn't want to lose his cushy job...
Peace.
