Complex exponetiation?

I was looking at the riemann zeta function, and realized i had no idea what an imaginary exponent like b^i would even mean. Can anyone explain it and maybe how to calculate it?

    first u need Euler's formula

    e^ix = cosx+isinx

now take any complex # z = a+bi. that is in rectangular coordinates. Now convert to polar coordinates

    by z = r^itheta r^2 = a^2 + b^2 , theta = tan^1 b/a

    hope this helps
