Some people don't seem to understand what it is you're talking about http://yanswersblog.com/index.php/archives/2012/06...

I've had the new rating system two different days since it started. I don't know if you've ever followed the Y!A Suggestion Board http://suggestions.yahoo.com/?prop=answers but for years people have been asking for Y!A to do away with the Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down (TU/TD) rating system because people were abusing it (giving thumbs down to other people they didn't like, answers with OPINIONS that disagreed with their own, or for point-gaming - trying to make other answers look bad, sometimes using puppet accounts to do the TDs on other answers but to give their own TUs).

If that's one of the reasons why Y!A is changing the rating system, I doubt the abuse will end - the abusers will just create multiple accounts to give their own answers good ratings, while the other answers don't get any. At least with the TDs, other answerers could show that another answer was factually wrong. Now, there's not an option for that. You can only say that you like an answer and for whatever reason. Personally, I don't see that as being an improvement. Point gamers are going to find a way of point gaming unless all rating and voting systems will be done away with. Then what's left for the person who asked the question? Look up the info themselves? (Hey, now there's an idea!)

But if Y!A is going to stick with the new rating system, they should at least give more options that would equate to the TDs:

    1) Answer is factually wrong

    2) Answer is outdated information

    3) Answerer misunderstands what was asked

    4) (Specify your reason for not agreeing)

I keep hearing about that but I still have the thumbs. I'm confused now. Did I get left behind again?

yes they should because with out the thumbs down features, it kinda forces people to thumbs even though they disagree with the post.

  • How do you think about the answers? You can sign in to vote the answer.
  • But if they disagree, they can press thumbs up, or they don't even have to!
