Why is the cross with Jesus used in exorcisms?
This might be a really stupid question, but I have always wondered what the Cross with Jesus does when in an exorcism. I mean I understand it has something to do with the devil, but I don't understand exactly what that is.

The Crucifix (Cross with Jesus on it) is a Catholic symbol. Most people associate that with exorcisms, but it's more of a Catholic thing than a Christian thing.
Exorcisms are performed on people who are believed to be processed with demons. According to the Bible, all that you need to do to perform and exorcism is to verbally cast the demon(s) out in the name of Jesus Christ.

It is used by religious people who, for one reason or another, cannot or will not recognise a person suffering from a mental illness, to ward off the perceived "powers" of the "demon" that they believe is possessing the body of the mentally ill patient.
The Exorcist was a great horror movie, and an enjoyable work of fiction.

It's how they get Christians to fall for their hoax. Slap Jesus or God on something and they'll believe every last word.

It's just a Catholic thing. People don't need to be exorcised if they had Jesus Chris in their lives.

It is mostly part of a plot where Satan plays both sides, so everyone is worshiping him in the end.
