  • How to predict how a graph will shift without numbers?

I'm totally lost as to how to figure out how the graphs

    y=a(x-h)^2+k (a>1, h>0, k>0)

    and

    y=a(x-h)^2+k (0<a<1, h<0, k>0)

    will change y=x^2

If someone would explain how to do these type problems to me it would be wonderful. I'm so confused.

    Thank you!

  • Help writing an autobiographical speech for college speech class?

Though I've given several speeches before, this is the first autobiographical speech I've ever done. I haven't done anything noteworthy or interesting and haven't made any concrete plans regarding the future. I have no idea how I'm supposed to babble about myself for 4 minutes.

I'm really having trouble with the introduction. What should I include in that? Is it as simple as saying "hello, my name is" and moving into the body? Or is there something else I could include?

    Any pointers would be appreciated.

  • In your opinion, why is the church's influence in decline in America?

I'm writing a paper on why the Christian church is loosing influence.

I'd like to get some insight from many different world views to include in this essay.

Please include how you identify yourself (Christian, Atheist, Agnostic, etc.) and give your opinions on why this is true (if you agree it's true; if you don't believe it is, tell me why)

    Thank you!

(And please, give legit reasons. "They suck, that's why" isn't helpful.)

  • Perspectives on this quote?

"The only limits to the possibilities of tomorrow are the 'buts' you use today."

I'm writing a 5 minute speech on this topic and need ideas. Since I'm a pessimist, I'm having a hard time relating to it.

Any people, events, ideas, or interesting angles?

    Thank you!

  • Examples of people who didn't limit themselves?

"The only limits to the possibility of your life tomorrow are the 'buts' you use today."

I'm writing a speech on this topic and would like historical/well known examples of people who either didn't limit themselves, overcame limits, or failed because of the limitations they placed on themselves.

Or if you have a different perspective on this quote, I'd love to hear it!

    Thank you

  • Hospital taking father to court. What to do?

My friend's mother died unexpectedly 2 years ago. She is currently 17 and raising her 9 year old sister while her father works nights.

They've been struggling financially because of the $7000 hospital bills and other problems due to half their income ending suddenly.

The hospital is now taking her father to court over the bills. What can they do? Is there a way to set up a reasonable plan to pay off the debts? And if they set one up, will the court case be canceled?

Her father has no idea what to do in this situation, nor does she. Likewise, I have no idea what to tell them. Is there a way to further research this?

    Thank you

  • Help finding scholarships?

I go to a small private school that could use a lot of help organizing itself; for this reason, I have no guidance councilor to help me with college planning. I'm quite lost and really need help with scholarships.

My GPA is a 3.8 (approximately, assuming I complete my senior year with all A's)

I've only taken the ACT once, but I'm scheduling to take it at least two more times this year. My composite score was 24. I got a 32 in English, 23 in math and reading, and a 19 in science.

Based on this, are there any scholarships I'm eligible to receive? How do I go about finding them?

  • Unusual indoor tanning problem?

I'm about to start going to a tanning bed for acne. UV light is the only thing that helps my skin right now (I've been to the derm. to no avail and tried many oral prescriptions, topical, and home remedies). However, I really don't want to be tan. I like my fair complexion and hate being tan, but I hate acne more. How can I minimize the visual effects of tanning without sunscreen (it breaks me out)? I plan to go as minimally as possible to keep my skin clear, but I tan well. Any ideas?

(And yes, I know the risks involved. I've done a lot of research and studying. Please, don't waste your time and mine by preaching the dangers of UV exposure. I'm going to go minimally and responsibly. I do not have type 1 skin and I do tan well without burning.)

  • How to drastically improve my ACT score?

I took the ACT once and my composite score was 24. My goal is to have a 30 (I NEED scholarships)

    Here's my score breakdown:

    32 in English

    23 in Reading and Math

    19 in Science

Also, what kind of scholarships do I need to look into? My GPA is (approximately) a 3.8 if it makes any difference.

  • Bible Study/Devotional?

I'm a teenage girl who wants a really good, deep devotional or Bible study. I do want it to be relevant to my age in some way, but all the one's marketed to my gender and age group don't teach me much except I'm beautiful and "modest is the hottest". That's stupid and I'm not interested in it.

I'm really interested in history, so something that ties in the Bible to both ancient and modern history would be great.

I prefer the KJV and I'm a protestant fundamentalist.

    Thank you!

  • Oily skin help? I know the basics and need more?

I also have moderately severe acne and have been to a dermatologist. I'm currently on the prescription Ziana. I know to wash with a gel cleanser no more than twice a day and to choose oil free products and use oil blotters and all that. In short, they don't cut it. I want something more.

I've tried ever imaginable makeup product, primer, and I'm a self proclaimed powder junkie. Is there anything else I'm missing? Are certain vitamins good for oily skin? Are there any prescriptions I should ask my derm. about next visit?

    Thanks

    The sentence is:

The author granted his request to reprint the poem.

I know "to reprint the poem" is the phrase, but what noun function does it serve in the sentence? Is it maybe an appositive?

  • Odd stomach pain/ache?

Yesterday my general stomach area became sore, as if I did 150 sit-ups the day before, except I didn't. It was like a dull ache, but I wasn't nauseated. Today I woke up and it's better, but I'm still a tad bit sore and my right side aches a little more than the rest. Again, no nausea or fever so I don't think it's appendicitis, but I'm by no means an expert. Any ideas?
