Thoughts on Jason Hammel?

Hammel just finished up a complete game, one hit shut out of the Braves. Struck out eight, walked two and threw only 103 pitches. The guy has been a great asset for the O's. Is it possible that he can keep it up?

I believe he can keep it up. He's really lucky he got out of Colorado, a notorious hitters park. Guthrie definitely hasn't faired well there especially since he's a fly ball pitcher, pitching in Colorado. He was never too great in Baltimore either. I think the Orioles definitely got what they traded for. I thought it was a dumb trade on Colorado's part, but most of the time, pitchers never really fair well there.

    Sure

I'm very surprised that he has pitched this well and the season is in June. Why? Usually, most pitchers tend to do worst in the American League than the National League. But in this case, it's the opposite way. He was NOT a good pitcher with Colorado or with Tampa Bay. But somehow, he's doing great with Baltimore and is one of the main reasons why they are the most surprising team in the league.

I DON'T think he'll keep it up though. His career ERA in the second half is over 5.00 so I'll say no but he COULD have the best year of his career.

He will be limited, I think on the number of innings pitched...I don't mean the Orioles will limit him, because he's already a seasoned veteran if you count the minor league time.

What I mean is that he has never pitched beyond 177 innings in a season and he has been inconsistent....but again he played in Colorado.

I think he will have a career year, with 13-14 wins.
