Why is my Galaxy S2 by T-Mobile overheating?

My Galaxy S2 by T-Mobile T989 is very new and has been overheating and battery dies very quickly. Have any of you gotten a replacement phone from Samsung? I've tried three batteries in it and the problem stays the same regardless of which battery is in it. It's ridiculous. The phone ends up being a corded phone because it is continuously plugged into a wall outlet. Every once in a while it will recharge and remain cool to the touch the entire time....which tells me that's the way it should really function when it's operating properly. The phone is defective. Can any of you concur with that? Can I get Samsung to replace it?

Update:

Thanks for answering Rebecah but no, this is with ZERO apps running.....screen turned off....idling overnight. When I wake up 6 hours later the phone is dead, won't even turn on. I leave for work with it 100% charged and within 3 hours it is below 50%, and again not even making ANY calls and no apps running and screen darkened and sitting in my work area not even in use at all. I'd like to hear from other S2 users and see if any of them had to return the phone...and how they went about returning it. Thanks again.
