What are the advantages, disadvantages and costs of having Bull/Roo Bars put on your car?
We just got our vehicle imported to where we are in Australia and are considering purchasing some bars for the front of the car to protect against Kangaroos and other animals that wander along the road. I just wanted somebody's opinion as to whether or not they're really needed.
We would primarily be driving during the day (including early in the morning) and occasionally later at night.
Cheers!

They do help in low speed impacts.
But due to the construction of modern vehicles and the introduction of force reducing crumple zones they can actually cause more damage to the structure of the vehicle because they transfer impact pressure to the mounting points of the bar, usually the front chassis rails. Once they are bent or distorted the repair bill skyrockets.

Agree with answer 2 and also unless bulls were design for that vehicle and test with that vehicle. Your Airbags may not deploy. You can get a Shoo Roo which emits a high pitch noise only dogs and animals can hear which would keep them away from you as you drive at night.

If you ever hit one you will find out right then the reasons to have one put on. It saves thousands of dollars in damage to the front end of the vehicle but they will likely need replacing and some monor body damage repaired if you have to use it. A full size one can bend those bars into a new shape.
