What's a good micrometer/caliper to get?

I'm looking for something decent, not a cheesy, piece of crap. What is the price-independent best? And what is a good value if I'm somewhat budget conscious? Just looking for a 6" dial caliper. Doesn't even have to be digital necessarily.

Thanks in advance

Starrett or Mituyomo both makes a great variety, from bottom to top of the line, both analog and digital. I have been in industrial maintenance for 18 years now, and have yet to find a good machine shop without Starrett or Mituyomo equipment.

You just can't get any better than "General". Made by General Tools.

They have been around for over one hundred years making the best manufactured precise measuring tools for surveyors and engineers.

My dad worked on everything from the landing gears for the C5-A, to the Leading Edge of the Space Shuttle, and his last... The Stealth.

Everyone of his tools were made from General. Check out their website if you want to look at their tools. General Tools.com
