17 y/o refused medication by GP for chronic back pain. What now?

Hi there, I am 17 years old and have been suffering with chronic back pain for the last three and a half years after a skiing accident. After I came home from my skiing holiday I asked to be referred to a physiotherapist which took two months to even get an appointment with. They gave me exercises to do and left it at that.

About a month ago I decided to try going to a chiropractor and found out that I had whiplash, a hook in my lower back, the bottom half of my back was virtually immobile and was relying on the top of my back to twist, my pelvis was twisted in three dimensions, uneven collar bones, uneven shoulders, the tendons in my neck were twisted around my spine, my sciatic nerve kept on getting trapped and causing me shooting pains down my right leg and my coccyx had curled underneath my spine and the top of my coccyx had slipped on top of my lowest vertebrae.

I went to see my GP today to see if I could get any kind of painkiller that would help ONLY for the duration of my treatment with the chiropractor. I had already tried all OTC painkillers and anti-inflammatories as well as Naproxen 250mg which gave me terrible heartburn and indigestion. She told me that if I were 60 she'd give me something without further questions but instead just told me to see a physiotherapist again after I finish with the chiropractor which will be in another 6 weeks or so. I asked to be referred to a consultant to which she said that I couldn't speak to one directly and was to continue to use OTC medication despite them not working.

I am in a lot of pain and can't even do the exercises I was given by the physiotherapist due to the pain. The most work that anyone seemed to do today was the receptionist in the surgery. Can anyone please suggest something I can do?

Many Thanks

As a chiropractor, I really understand what you are going through. Here are a few recommendations.

    1) Try Black Currant Seed Oil- This is a natural anti-inflammatory. However, this can not be taken with any COX-2 inhibitors like Ibuprofin or Naproxin. They will negate the effect of the black currant seed oil. You can take as many Black Currant Seed oil tablets as you want without any risks (unless you are allergic to the berries). I would start off with 5 or 6 and see how they work. Hopefully this will really help.

    2) Try MSM3 or other pain reliever sprays or gels. Maybe even Biofreeze will help this pain.

    3) Get a new GP. A different doctor may respond differently to your pain, especially when you show them the findings of the chiropractor. Some doctors work well with chiropractors, others do not. You need to find one who does.

I really wish you the best

You sound as if you have more than enough problems to deal with that you should qualify for disability. You do not have to take medications unless you find they hep you and you need them. Some prefer to put up with the pain, have learnt techniques for coping and need to feel when it gets worse, which may be masked by some medications. The illness is apart form what you take. However, disability may not be easy to get. Some can mange quite well and get awarded it; others have severe difficulty and cannot lead a fairly normal life but get turned down. It makes no sense. But keep on trying if you do not succeed at first.

Standard treatment for sciatica usually involves a variety of pain-killing medications and sleep. This could often be effective at lowering suffering in the short-term. The thing is so it only sweets the symptoms of sciatica, meaning the pain usually returns at a later date and if you should be suffering for sciatica you already know that so for this reason is the time to improve that with the help of Sciatica SOS from here https://tr.im/6GVOk .

Sciatica SOS is a whole holistic treatment program predicated on Nepalese healers'techniques to rapidly lower pain and stiffness.
