Because countries like China and Japan have far more school days than kids in America, and kids in China and Japan are forced to do much harder work, often involving technology and science. All this while American kids simply plan to get onto a sports team or be a celebrity. We need to focus more on education than whether an Desperate Housewives husband died.

Neither system makes people smart. China has been communist for a long time, it was only recently China started rising.

America was a democracy and it is only recently kids got lazy.
