I am so confused! (Goyte question)?

I am absolutely 100% sure that I listened to "Now You're Somebody That I Used To Know" about 10 years ago and it was written in the 80's. I've just been told it is original from last year. What the hell? Why am I so sure I have heard it before because I KNOW I have! Could I be mistaken at all? And no, I'm not thinking of the one by (someone) Elliot. Can't remember his first name. Please help!

Perhaps it is "Somebody's Watching Me" by Rockwell? ...it's from 1984 and the two songs sound pretty similar! Hope I helped! :)

It's because it was a version of a song that was originally composed by Elliott Smith but it isn't the exact same song. Gotye drew a lot of influence from him. I don't know what else you could be thinking of, but this song itself from drawn from that song so.
