I want to play my college course DVDs. Brand new dvds?

I have a bunch of players downloaded, none work. Windows XP, Core2DuoE6300, 250gb, 4gbram. When I load a DVD the green light in the reader just blinks. Sometimes it works, other times no. Inside is clean. Non smoker

Update:

I downloaded and installed VLC. I get the following:Your input can't be opened:

VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd:///C:/Program%20Files/VideoLAN/VLC/osdmenu'. Check the log for details. ?????? HELP!!! THANKS!! I know the DVD supermulti drive has power. The slide opens and I have a green light.
