white lion population?
You need to augment your white lion population but the nearby game farms will not sell you a white lion. Instead they offer to sell you some of their golden lions. Based on only the data below which game farm would buy golden lions from and why? (assume that the populations in each game farm are in Hardy Weinberg Equilibrium and show your work)

Shamwari 23 6
Londolozi 18 4

I don't know, because I don't know whether "white" is dominant or recessive.
If white is dominant, then you shouldn't buy any golden lions.
So let's assume that white is recessive, and follows the Mendelian inheritance pattern for one gene with two alleles.
Look at the Hardy-Weinberg equation for two alleles:
p^2 + 2pq + q^2 = 1
q^2 represents the portion of the population that is white, and q represents the frequency of the white allele.
For Sham, we have q^2 = 6/(23+ 6) so q = 0.45
For Lond we have q^2 = 4/(18 + 4) so q= 0.43
That's pretty close. Buy from Sham first.

It is hard to determine exactly how many white lions there are today, because they are held in captive breeding and canned hunting operations which don't keep adequate records. Based on available evidence, The Global White Lion Protection Trust estimate there are less than 300 White Lions world-wide...!!!
