My son had surgery to change his Baclofen pump. The incision became infected and they had to take it out.?

Since then, he has been put on the pill form of Baclofen. He went through Baclofen withdrawal and his incision on his back was leaking spinal fluid. He became confused and we had to put him in the hospital. He was put on IV fluids and came after a few days. He was himself mentally for a few days, but now he is acting confused again. The doctor had changed up his medicine and they thought that might have caused it, but I think he was starting to get confused before that. Today, when we called the doctor he changed the medicine up again to try to alleviate the problem. What could be causing this and how long should we let it go before we get even more concerned. He has a spinal cord injury, but he was doing well on the Baclofen pump, and even walks and has been employed for 12 years. This is very upsetting. He is sleeping a lot and seems to be just a little bit better when he wakes up.

I have been on oral Baclofen for 12 years and had to cold turkey off it because of a drug interaction and hallucinated for weeks so I can imagine what he is going through. I am now on a pump for a spinal cord injury but have morphine and continue oral Baclofen. As a nurse it seems the infection and losing the spinal fluid is what is keeping him so wiped out. I know " give it some time" is a frustrating answer but it is time that he is going to need. Plus the doctors are going to need time to readjust his medications too.

I know how it must feel seeing him like this as I feel the same way about some of the setbacks I have had including being in a coma for 4 days but it just seems longer then it really is.
